Americans love their dogs and the number of dogs per household in on the rise. Roughly 85 million U.S families, or 67% percent of households, own a pet, according to a survey conducted by the American Pet Products Association (APPA). Compared that percentage to the first year the survey was conducted, in 1988, where 56% of U.S. households owned a pet.
In the U.S. today, pets include 63.4 million dogs and 42.7 million cats. In 2018, pet services accounted for $90.5 billion spent. In 2019, $95.7 billion was spent on our pets. And in 2020, it’s estimated that $115.0 billion was spent on our pets.
